2027 Australasian Coasts and Ports Conference
23-26 August 2027
Takina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre, New Zealand
About the Australasian Coasts and Ports Conference
The Australasian Coasts & Ports Conference series is the pre-eminent forum in the Australasian region for professionals to meet and discuss multi-disciplinary issues related to coasts and ports. This Conference will continue to publicise the persisting importance of coastal engineering problems, incorporating numerous concurrent streams for technical presentations, technical tours and the opportunity to network with colleagues in a vibrant social program including a Welcome Reception, Conference Dinner and other optional activities.
In 1973, two years after the formation of the National Committee on Coastal and Ocean Engineering, the first Australian Conference on Coastal engineering was held in Sydney. The creation of the conference series reflected the important position that coastal and ocean engineering had achieved in the development and protection of some of Australia’s most valuable resources. The conference series is shared with the New Zealand Coastal Society and the Institution of Professional Engineers of New Zealand who hosted the first NZ conference in Christchurch in 1985.
A parallel series of Australasian Port and Harbour Conferences was started by PIANC Australia in 1986 (also in Sydney) and from 1995 the two-conference series have been held jointly under the title ‘Australasian Coasts and Ports’.
The Australasian Coasts & Ports Conference series takes place every two years, in major cities in Australia and New Zealand. The Conference series brings together engineers, scientists and planners; academics, practitioners and those in the construction industry and is the pre-eminent forum in Australasia for professionals to meet and discuss issues extending across all disciplines related to coasts and ports.
Welcome to Coasts & Ports 2027
Kia ora koutou,
On behalf of the organising committee, it is our pleasure to welcome you to Coasts & Ports 2027 in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, New Zealand.
Our theme for 2027 is “Tuituia Takutai | Connected By Coast”. It reflects the essence of Coasts & Ports. How coastlines bring together people, communities, places and industries, and how shared challenges and opportunities unite our profession.
Coasts & Ports brings together an exceptional community of engineers, scientists, researchers, planners, operators, contractors and industry leaders from across Australasia and beyond. It is an opportunity to share knowledge, challenge conventional thinking, and explore how we can collectively shape the future of our coastal and maritime environments. We are delighted to host the conference in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, a city shaped by its connection to its harbour, coastline and maritime heritage. Wellington provides an outstanding setting to showcase innovative coastal, port and maritime work from across Aotearoa New Zealand, while drawing on the experience and perspectives of colleagues from Australia and around the world.
Our ambition for Coasts & Ports 2027 is to deliver an engaging conference that combines leading technical knowledge, practical industry experience and meaningful discussion. We hope it will inspire new ideas, strengthen professional relationships and help shape the future of our coastal and maritime environments. Just as importantly, we aim to create opportunities to reconnect with colleagues, establish new relationships and continue the conversations that drive our profession forward.
Tuituia Takutai | Connected By Coast reminds us that while we may come from different disciplines, organisations and countries, we share a common purpose in understanding, managing and enhancing our coasts and ports. We look forward to bringing our community together in Wellington in 2027.
We hope you enjoy the conference, the city and everything our region has to offer.
Ngā mihi nui,
Ryan Abrey & Jono Stewart
